The river Thames snakes its way through the heart of the beautiful rural districts of South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse and we are home to a unique blend of stunning countryside and cutting-edge science and high-tech businesses.
Improvement and innovation are business-as-usual for us at the district councils as we continually seek new ways to meet the challenges of providing suitable and sustainable housing for a growing population and creating thriving communities that people want to be proud of. We are creating the conditions that make South Oxfordshire and the Vale great places to do business, providing our residents with high-value jobs and the opportunity to prosper.
We genuinely believe in putting our people first – we work hard every day to make sure everyone can achieve a healthy and enjoyable work-life balance. This is why we have a very flexible hours system that means your home life comes first.
But we also believe in each of us challenging and improving ourselves – the opportunities to go further and be better at what you do are there for those who want them. We love success and we reward hard work.
The majority of our staff have flexible hybrid working arrangements. This means a combination of home/remote working, with the option to book time working in the office to collaborate with colleagues, use the meeting rooms, or just get a change of scenery. If your roles involves hybrid working, you would be provided with the appropriate IT equipment to allow you to work from home.

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils have been working together since 2005. Nearly all our staff work for both councils, but don’t worry – it’s pretty straightforward and it doesn’t mean double the workload!
The two councils have shared services – for example we have the same recycling collection service, and the same organisation runs our leisure centres – however each council still has its own distinctive identity. There are still some areas of our work we do things differently to each other depending on the priorities of the two sets of councillors.
